Goals and Mission

The Woodhaven School of the Arts is a ministry of Woodhaven Baptist Church. Our goals are to:Provide excellent training in the fine arts.Develop future church music leaders.Minister to our community through Christian Arts.

It is our desire to provide the best in fine arts instruction as an extension of our Christian ministry. We are dedicated to creating an atmosphere where students can learn fine arts, develop their God-given talents and use their gifts in praise of God.Enrollment and InstructionPrivate study is offered in: PianoOrganVoiceGuitar, mandolin, banjo Visual arts (Group and Individual)Kindermusik

The lessons are offered on a weekly basis in 30 minute blocks. Advanced lessons in piano, voice, strings, and organ are available with permission from the instructor and WSA director. Vocal instruction is offered to rising ninth graders through adults. See the WSA director for prerequisites to organ study.Registration

To begin the enrollment process new students must:contact the director complete registration form and enrollment agreement submit them with the first month's tuition on or before the registration deadline

When a student is enrolled, he/she is committing to an entire semester of study.Lessons & Scheduling

All lessons are taught at Woodhaven Baptist Church to provide consistency and an atmosphere conducive to learning. No exceptions. During the enrollment process, each student will be assigned an instructor. The student or parent of the student will then be contacted to confirm a convenient lesson or class time. Once a lesson time is established, it is important that the student continue through the semester with that time.Make Up Policy

We consider your private lesson time as a standing appointment. If the teacher has to miss a lesson, it will be made up. If the student misses a lesson, PRIOR NOTICE IS REQUIRED. We would prefer a six-hour or more notice for that lesson day. Please contact the instructor directly. Contacting the church office should only be used as a last resort as messages cannot always be relayed effectively to an instructor. Under these outlined circumstances, (with proper prior notice) the teacher will make up ONE lesson per student per semester. End of Semester Recitals

It is important for students to hear other students play/sing. There is also great value in students performing in public. Therefore, each student will be encouraged to attend and play/sing on the spring semester recital and should plan to remain for the entire program. Adult students are not required to perform in recitals.2008-2009 Calendar

Contemporary Worship Leader: Sandy began singing Southern Gospel music with her mother in churches all over eastern NC as a small child. By the age of 16, she discovered her ability to play music by ear (after having had 10 years of piano lessons, learning how to read music) and then to write, play, and sing her own music. Sandy comes to us with a treasure of contemporary worship leadership experience at three other churches in the Triangle. She is an accomplished musician, having published a professional CD entitled "Right Where You Belong," as well as several singles. In her spare time, Sandy works with her husband providing music and DJ services for weddings, corporate events, among others, through their business, Alvin Entertainment. In addition, she is the director for the Wake Med Chorus and is an ongoing performer with the "Guitars & Friends" show.

Sandy lives in Raleigh with her husband, Steve and three children, Josh, London, and Jaden, all of whom are talented musicians!

Come and join Woodhaven at either one of these Christ Centered Worship Services.

8:30am Contemporary Worship: The Contemporary Worship service seeks to glorify God through a more contemporary and casual setting. Through uplifting praise music, personal testimonies, and the use of multimedia, this service encourages authentic and dynamic worship experiences.

10:30am Traditional Worship: This service is a more traditional style of worship. Our outstanding organist and pianist will usher you into the sanctuary proclaiming God's praises through hymns and moments of meditation. This traditional service relies more on instruments like the flute, clarinet, trumpet and handbells. We are blessed with a superb chancel choir that compliments their anthems with solo and duets. This service seeks to honor God through creative and blended worship experiences and Christ centered messages.

Worship is welcoming God's grace and favor to embrace us as we embrace God in spirit and truth.

"Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks." John 4:23

Our goal is to offer creative worship experiences that will help build a unified congregation of believers through blended worship services, utilizing both traditional and non-traditional expressions of worship, and addressing the different needs of a transgenerational congregation and non-believers within our community.

We have two worship services each Sunday morning.

8:30am Contemporary Worship: The Contemporary Worship service seeks to glorify God through a more contemporary and casual setting. Through uplifting praise music, personal testimonies, and the use of multimedia, this service encourages authentic and dynamic worship experiences.

Tithes and Offerings - On Line Giving

Tithing is a biblical principle of giving your time, talents and financial tithes to support the Kingdom of God. Church members and faithful friends of Woodhaven have chosen to help expand the Kingdom of God through the missions and ministry of Woodhaven Baptist Church. A tithe is considered to be a financial gift of ten percent (10%) of an individuals weekly, monthly or annual income. Some members give on a weekly basis while other members give bi-monthly, monthly or quaterly to God's Church and ministries. A financial offering is actually considered to be a gift above and beyond the ten percent of a person's income. Some members sacrificially both tithe and give offerings to special mission efforts or ministries they embrace and support. Tithes and offerings are genuine and sincere gifts birthed from a persons heart, soul and mind who seek to honor and give thanks to God for the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Giving is an expression of our love and faithfulness to Christ.

Research has shown that for a new pattern in our life to become permanent, we need to repeat it for at least 21 days. For this, we have expanded that to 30 DAYS.

To be able to read, reflect and pray, 30 minutes is a good starting point. If we're rushing through to say, "I did it", and then move on to another event, what good is it?

READ a devtional story. Reflect on how it might relate to your life.

MEDITATE on the scripture you find related to the story.

PRAY and try to focus on being still. You don't have to fill all of the quiet...just spend time with God.

To COVENANT or promise is a sacred way in which God related with people in Biblical times. The people promised to change their ways. As a result, God would help and strengthen them to accomplish this. to use the word "challenge" or "resolution rather than "covenant" signifies a beginning and end, a contract or punch list to fulfill. Covenant speaks of relationship, promise and ongoing as its foundation.

Fore the month of January, why not try 30 MINUTES A DAY FOR 30 DAYS and covenant with God for strength and help.

LEAP into the New Year of Spiritual Growth Beginning With 30/30/C! - 30/30/C

What's happening with your life in 2008? Have you thought about spiritual planning? Are you thinking about some concrete ways to grow closer to God? Hopefully you will embrace one of the suggestions we have listed below along with the covenant to follow and "make time with God" part of your daily routine.

As with anything in life, to improve, draw closer in a relationship, gain skills, etc., you must give your time and effort. It is the same with spiritual growth. Nurturing our relationship with God and our spiritual maturity means a daily time with God. Blocking out the world, focusing attention and being still are vital elements of this daily time. In our busy, fast-paced, "fill the quiet with noise" world that we live in, it has become difficult to "find the time" for God. But God always has time for us.

So, how can we do this? Well, we can walk through this year together! Let's pray, inquire and be supportive and helpful with one another. Let's share devotional material and creative ways we can spend time with God.

Stephen Ministry - Stephen Ministry

Stephen Ministry is an outreach of the pastoral care offered at Woodhaven to people experiencing times of transition and crisis in their lives. Stephen Ministers are laypeople who have been equipped and trained to provide confidential, distinctively one-to-one, lay Christian care.Confidential: Stephen Ministers observe strict standards of confidentiality in their relationships with their care-receivers, whose identity and personal circumstances are very closely protected.One-to-one: Stephen Ministers meet privately with one care receiver of the same gender. Lay: Stephen Ministers are trained and supervised lay volunteers, not professional counselors or therapists, pastors, or physicians. Christian: Stephen Ministers are Christians who care in the name of Christ. They are equipped and willing to talk about spiritual issues as their care-receivers may desire, but they fully respect their care-receivers autonomy, and never insist upon their own point of view on any issue.Care: Stephen Ministers care by listening, supporting and encouraging, praying, being dependable and trustworthy, and maintaining confidentiality in their caregiving. Stephen Ministers provide the care, but it is God who provides the cure.

For more information on Stephen Ministry, please visit their webpage:

Stephen Ministry

Stephen Ministry at Woodhaven began in the Fall of 2003 with the training of Harvey Clayton and Cheryl Johnson as Stephen Leaders, who administer the program and training. Currently we have six trained Stephen Ministers (three males and three females).

Stephen Ministers at Woodhaven are part of a large network of Triangle churches that make up the Triangle Area Stephen Ministry Network (TASMN). There are approximately 63 churches in this network. For information about TASMN, please visit TASMN

If you would like to explore the possibility of acquiring the assistance of a Stephen Minister, or if you are interested in becoming a Stephen Minister yourself, please e-mail or phone one of the Stephen Leaders: Harvey Clayton (919.418.8911) or Cheryl Johnson (919.557.6277). You may also call the church office at 919-362-0127 if you have any questions or if you would like to learn how you can support this important ministry in our congregation.

Stephen Ministry is a wonderful opportunity to share the love of Jesus with others.
