Come and join Woodhaven at either one of these Christ Centered Worship Services.

8:30am Contemporary Worship: The Contemporary Worship service seeks to glorify God through a more contemporary and casual setting. Through uplifting praise music, personal testimonies, and the use of multimedia, this service encourages authentic and dynamic worship experiences.

10:30am Traditional Worship: This service is a more traditional style of worship. Our outstanding organist and pianist will usher you into the sanctuary proclaiming God's praises through hymns and moments of meditation. This traditional service relies more on instruments like the flute, clarinet, trumpet and handbells. We are blessed with a superb chancel choir that compliments their anthems with solo and duets. This service seeks to honor God through creative and blended worship experiences and Christ centered messages. We hope you will come and encounter God's love and grace at either one of these Christ centered worship services. Discover Worship at Woodhaven !

                                                                                         Goals and Mission

The Woodhaven School of the Arts is a ministry of Woodhaven Baptist Church. Our goals are to:Provide excellent training in the fine arts.Develop future church music leaders.Minister to our community through Christian Arts.

It is our desire to provide the best in fine arts instruction as an extension of our Christian ministry. We are dedicated to creating an atmosphere where students can learn fine arts, develop their God-given talents and use their gifts in praise of God.Enrollment and InstructionPrivate study is offered in: PianoOrganVoiceGuitar, mandolin, banjo Visual arts (Group and Individual)

The lessons are offered on a weekly basis in 30 minute blocks. Advanced lessons in piano, voice, strings, and organ are available with permission from the instructor and WSA director. Vocal instruction is offered to rising ninth graders through adults. Previous piano study required for organ lessons.Registration

To begin the enrollment process new students must:complete registration form and enrollment agreement submit them with a $25.00 registration fee on or before the registration deadline

When a student is enrolled, he/she is committing to an entire semester of study.Lessons & Scheduling

All lessons are taught at Woodhaven Baptist Church to provide consistency and an atmosphere conducive to learning. No exceptions. During the enrollment process, each student will be assigned an instructor. The student or parent of the student will then be contacted to confirm a convenient lesson or class time. Once a lesson time is established, it is important that the student continue through the semester with that time.Make Up Policy

We consider your private lesson time as a standing appointment. If the teacher has to miss a lesson, it will be made up. If the student misses a lesson, PRIOR NOTICE IS REQUIRED. We would prefer a six-hour or more notice for that lesson day. Please contact the instructor directly. Contacting the church office should only be used as a last resort as messages cannot always be relayed effectively to an instructor. Under these outlined circumstances, (with proper prior notice) the teacher will make up ONE lesson per student per semester. End of Semester Recitals

It is important for students to hear other students play/sing. There is also great value in students performing in public. Therefore, each student will be encouraged to attend and play/sing on the spring semester recital and should plan to remain for the entire program. Adult students are not required to perform in recitals.2009-2010 Calendar

October 2009

Seeking Peace

"Depart from evil and do good; seek peace, and pursue it" (Psalm 34:14).

"Keep on doing the things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, and the God of Peace will be with you" (Philippians 4:9).

World Communion Sunday occurs each year on the first Sunday in October - this year on October 4. It is a day when churches of the Christian faith draw together in unity to celebrate that which they hold in common - a belief in the Lord Jesus Christ and a celebration of the gift of life that was given for us all. World Communion Sunday reminds us that as the Church universal on earth, we are all one in Christ Jesus, the Prince of Peace, and that the table is not ours, but the Lord's. This demonstration of unity among Christians is an effort to uphold the art of peacemaking - a difficult task in today's war-torn society.

Stephen Ministry is an outreach of the pastoral care offered at Woodhaven to people experiencing times of transition and crisis in their lives. Stephen Ministers are laypeople who have been equipped and trained to provide confidential, one-to-one, distinctively Christian care.Laypeople: Stephen Ministers are trained and supervised lay volunteers, not professional counselors or therapists, pastors, or physicians. Confidential: Stephen Ministers observe strict standards of confidentiality in their relationships with their care-receivers, whose identity and personal circumstances are very closely protected.One-to-one: Stephen Ministers meet privately with one care receiver of the same gender. Distinctly Christian: Stephen Ministers are Christians who care in the name of Christ. They are equipped and willing to talk about spiritual issues as their care-receivers may desire, but they fully respect their care-receivers autonomy, and never insist upon their own point of view on any issue.Care: Stephen Ministers care by listening, supporting and encouraging, praying, being dependable and trustworthy, and maintaining confidentiality in their caregiving. Stephen Ministers provide the care, but it is God who provides the cure.

As the youth pastor at Woodhaven, Leah strives to foster an environment where students know that they are loved and accepted. It is her goal to show students the radical, transforming love of God. She hopes that we can all learn, share, and grow together on this journey of faith.

Contemporary Worship Leader: Sandy began singing Southern Gospel music with her mother in churches all over eastern NC as a small child. By the age of 16, she discovered her ability to play music by ear (after having had 10 years of piano lessons, learning how to read music) and then to write, play, and sing her own music. Sandy comes to us with a treasure of contemporary worship leadership experience at three other churches in the Triangle. She is an accomplished musician, having published a professional CD entitled "Right Where You Belong," as well as several singles. In her spare time, Sandy works with her husband providing music and DJ services for weddings, corporate events, among others, through their business, Alvin Entertainment. In addition, she is the director for the Wake Med Chorus and is an ongoing performer with the "Guitars & Friends" show.

Sandy lives in Raleigh with her husband, Steve and three children, Josh, London, and Jaden, all of whom are talented musicians!

WORSHIP - Worship

Worship is welcoming God's grace and favor to embrace us as we embrace God in spirit and truth.

"Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks." John 4:23

Our goal is to offer creative worship experiences that will help build a unified congregation of believers through blended worship services, utilizing both traditional and non-traditional expressions of worship, and addressing the different needs of a transgenerational congregation and non-believers within our community.

We have two worship services each Sunday morning.

This classical service relies more on instruments like the flute, clarinet, trumpet and handbells.

Tithes and Offerings - On Line Giving

Tithing is a biblical principle of giving your time, talents and financial tithes to support the Kingdom of God. Church members and faithful friends of Woodhaven have chosen to help expand the Kingdom of God through the missions and ministry of Woodhaven Baptist Church. A tithe is considered to be a financial gift of ten percent (10%) of an individuals weekly, monthly or annual income. Some members give on a weekly basis while other members give bi-monthly, monthly or quaterly to God's Church and ministries. A financial offering is actually considered to be a gift above and beyond the ten percent of a person's income. Some members sacrificially both tithe and give offerings to special mission efforts or ministries they embrace and support. Tithes and offerings are genuine and sincere gifts birthed from a persons heart, soul and mind who seek to honor and give thanks to God for the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Giving is an expression of our love and faithfulness to Christ.

4 WAYS TO BE CREATIVE IN YOUR PRAYER TIME - Prayer

1. The Psalms are ancient hymns filled with deep feelings and emotion. Read five psalms each day. Allow them to shape the content of your prayer time. In 30 days you will have read through all 150 psalms.

2. Use the A.C.T.S. model to shape your prayer time. Begin with Adoration, praising God for who He is, followed by Confession, Thanksgiving, and end with Supplication, as you present your requests to God.

3. Take a walk on the beach, through a garden, or in the mountains. Allow God's creation to shape your prayer. See His detail, His beauty, His faithfulness, and His power.

4. Write your prayers. Keep a journal. Use art if you like. Be sure to periodically note how each situation is unfolding.

Living as Believers

Woodhaven is a positive and nurturing congregation who encourage its members to live each day as a Christian. Whether we are at Church, Home, Work, School or Play we want our lifestyle to reflect the light and love of Jesus Christ. We offer creative worship services, open Bible studies and small groups, and unique mission and ministry experiences to grow in Christ.

Our "Seasoned" Adults - Senior Adults

One of the strengths of Woodhaven is the balance of our age groups, from infants to senior adults. A vital part of this balance is our Senior Adult Ministry. Approximately seventy people make up this group. Some of our "Seasoned" adults are still employed, some retired or nearing retirement and some are homebound.

Woodhaven's Senior Adult Ministry includes: Bible Study, fellowship, evenings out, day trips, extended trips, intergenerational activities and ministry projects. Woodhaven senior adults are involved in a wide range of activities at Woodhaven. Our seniors teach in Bible Study and Small Groups, active on church committees and councils, serve as deacons and are involved in ushering and preschool child care during worship services.

If you are a "Seasoned Adult" looking for a church home and new friends, come and try us out.

is a community created by the Holy Spirit to unify and edify the Body of Christ for Christian service.

"They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved." Acts 2:42-47

Woodhaven provides fellowship opportunites to build personal relationships that will help people discover their place in the family of God.

At Woodhaven all members are ministers. God has blessed our church with strong leaders in many areas. A number of our teachers are specialists in their fields which include our preschool and children's ministries, youth and adult ministries, and missions education. Offering quality ministries are important to us. Our goal is to develop a mature family of faith whose members are loving, generous, and cooperative. We take seriously the belief that God has called each of us to minister in His name.
