Are you ready to travel, taste some delightful foreign-influenced food, and enjoy the sights and sounds of other countries? We’ve got the ticket for you… Go “Around the World with Love” on Saturday, Feb. 9, at this year’s Youth Valentine’s Banquet, a fundraiser for youth summer missions trips.

Tickets are on sale now on Sundays and Wednesdays. The cost is $20 per person, cash or check. Invite family and friends! If you need a little help with transportation, please let us know and we’ll arrange a ride. We don’t want anyone to be left out… Think of it as your “ground transportation”!

Your journey will begin at 6 p.m. with an Italian-inspired menu of rolls, tossed salad, and a choice of entree: Baked Ziti, Spaghetti & Meatballs, Chicken Parmesan or Eggplant Parmesan. No trip to another country is complete without experiences the sweet stuff! At the end of the meal, we’ll share an assortment of international desserts. (You can save those Weight Watchers points for another day.)

During the meal, our youth will share their talents and lead you in fun activities with a little competitive spirit thrown in. This is a neat time to get to know other church members a little better and learn which teenagers go with which parents. It’s a wonderful bunch!

But the best part is the purpose: We’re supporting our youth to learn what it means to serve others and share God’s love. All the proceeds from the banquet will help cover the costs of the 2019 summer missions trip to Tennessee with Appalachia Service Project. Our youth and chaperones will be helping families in need with construction projects to make their homes warmer, safer and drier.

Won’t you join us on Feb. 9? We’re saving a seat for you.

Children’s Art Auction for Hunger

Girl holding painting of a heart
Kids may not have a lot of money, but they do have a lot of creativity! Our children have been creating art projects on Wednesday nights this fall to be a part of the Woodhaven community and contribute to our Hunger Offering.

Now is your chance to support our kids and their efforts by purchasing their art at an Art Sale and Auction on Wednesday, Oct. 10, from 6 – 6:45 p.m. in the Courtyard. (If the weather doesn’t cooperate, we’ll move to the Fellowship Hall.)

Most items will be $1 — or whatever you would like to donate — with a few select items to be auctioned off. The children have been working hard on projects from suncatchers, paintings and wrapping paper to scarves and more! So, bring your wallet or your checkbook on Oct. 10 and join our children in helping hungry people.

Train cars at Camp Willow Run in Littleton, NC

All Aboard for Camp Willow Run

Train cars at Camp Willow Run in Littleton, NC

All children in grades 3 – 5 (2018-19) are invited to a fall retreat Sept. 14 – 16 at Camp Willow Run on Lake Gaston in Littleton, N.C. We’ll enjoy swimming, canoeing, crafts, games and the low ropes course, as well as small group Bible studies and worship. Kids also pick two activities for “Camper’s Choice.” Another highlight is sleeping in the converted train cars circling the camp.

The retreat is organized by children’s ministers from 13 local Baptist churches to promote Bible study, camp activities and fellowship. This year, we’ll focus on 1 John 4:7a, “Dear friends, let us love one another.” We’ll learn how scripture teaches us to be a friend, help a friend and accept a friend.

To register, bring the registration form and medical release form to Woodhaven by Sunday, Aug. 12, with a check for $135 made out to Woodhaven Baptist Church. (Please note “Willow Run Retreat” on the memo line.) We will also need a copy of the front and back of the child’s insurance card.

Got questions? Please contact Emily Hayne at emily@woodhaven.org. All aboard!
