Here’s a hands-on missions opportunity for all ages: Rise Against Hunger. Join us in the Multipurpose Room at Woodhaven on Saturday, March 16, in packaging meals that will be shipped to children and adults in need around the globe.

If you can measure, scoop, label or assemble boxes, there’s a job for you! This is a great service activity for friends, neighbors and school-aged children.

After the meal packing, we’ll head to the Fellowship Hall for a barbecue lunch.

Are you ready to travel, taste some delightful foreign-influenced food, and enjoy the sights and sounds of other countries? We’ve got the ticket for you… Go “Around the World with Love” on Saturday, Feb. 9, at this year’s Youth Valentine’s Banquet, a fundraiser for youth summer missions trips.

Tickets are on sale now on Sundays and Wednesdays. The cost is $20 per person, cash or check. Invite family and friends! If you need a little help with transportation, please let us know and we’ll arrange a ride. We don’t want anyone to be left out… Think of it as your “ground transportation”!

Your journey will begin at 6 p.m. with an Italian-inspired menu of rolls, tossed salad, and a choice of entree: Baked Ziti, Spaghetti & Meatballs, Chicken Parmesan or Eggplant Parmesan. No trip to another country is complete without experiences the sweet stuff! At the end of the meal, we’ll share an assortment of international desserts. (You can save those Weight Watchers points for another day.)

During the meal, our youth will share their talents and lead you in fun activities with a little competitive spirit thrown in. This is a neat time to get to know other church members a little better and learn which teenagers go with which parents. It’s a wonderful bunch!

But the best part is the purpose: We’re supporting our youth to learn what it means to serve others and share God’s love. All the proceeds from the banquet will help cover the costs of the 2019 summer missions trip to Tennessee with Appalachia Service Project. Our youth and chaperones will be helping families in need with construction projects to make their homes warmer, safer and drier.

Won’t you join us on Feb. 9? We’re saving a seat for you.

Joy of the Harvest

Illustration of pumpkin and fall foliage
Gather together around the table with us for warm fellowship and thankful hearts! Our Joy of the Harvest worship service, meal and global hunger offering collection will be on Sunday, Nov. 18, at 6:00 p.m. Our menu will be corn chowder or vegetable beef soup, ham or turkey sandwich, salad and banana split dessert. There is no charge for the meal. Please sign up on Realm or on the communication card in the Sunday bulletin. We hope you’ll come… and bring guests!

Our global hunger offering will be collected on Sunday, Nov. 18. Bring your “bread bank” or other donations to Sunday morning worship or to the Joy of the Harvest celebration that evening. As has been our practice for years, Woodhaven’s Hunger Offering is distributed as follows: 75% goes to the Hunger Fund of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship of North Carolina (state hunger relief), and 25% goes to the Hunger Emphasis of Baptist World Aid (global hunger relief). Each of these funds applies 100% of all donations to hunger relief.

Children’s Art Auction for Hunger

Girl holding painting of a heart
Kids may not have a lot of money, but they do have a lot of creativity! Our children have been creating art projects on Wednesday nights this fall to be a part of the Woodhaven community and contribute to our Hunger Offering.

Now is your chance to support our kids and their efforts by purchasing their art at an Art Sale and Auction on Wednesday, Oct. 10, from 6 – 6:45 p.m. in the Courtyard. (If the weather doesn’t cooperate, we’ll move to the Fellowship Hall.)

Most items will be $1 — or whatever you would like to donate — with a few select items to be auctioned off. The children have been working hard on projects from suncatchers, paintings and wrapping paper to scarves and more! So, bring your wallet or your checkbook on Oct. 10 and join our children in helping hungry people.

Hurricane Florence Response

Roof torn off by Hurricane Florence
Woodhaven’s missions resources are supporting North Carolina Baptists on Mission (NCBoM) who are at work responding to needs for food and care in hurricane-affected areas. NCBoM is nationally known and praised for their skills, organization and quality of care in disaster response situations.

Woodhaven on Mission is also preparing our disaster response trailer in order to offer assistance in a coordinated care effort through Baptists on Mission and the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship.

How can you help? Please consider making our church your first place for giving in response to Hurricane Florence. Offerings over and above your tithe, if designated on your offering envelope, will go directly to disaster relief efforts.

Additionally, a portion of your tithe automatically goes to the Woodhaven on Mission budget, which makes purchases of tools, supplies and equipment for missions projects now and in the future.

Thank you, church family, for your time, talents and resources. Please continue to pray for the helpers and responders and all who are adversely affected by the hurricane.

For updates, visit Baptists on Mission.

Sincerely,
Jay Hayne, chair, Woodhaven on Mission
Ray Beale, minister liaison, Woodhaven on Mission
