Hot dog! It’s Christmas in July!

Christmas is coming? Yes! The Woodhaven worship choir will soon be learning the Christmas cantata “Heaven’s Child”… and will present the musical message this fall at Carnegie Hall in New York City under the direction of the composer himself, Pepper Choplin. (In December, the choir will share the cantata with our Woodhaven community, too.)

Here’s where you come in. We need your support for the trip! Join us for a special Christmas in July evening on Sunday, July 14, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. here at Woodhaven Baptist Church. Tap your toes to the bluegrass sounds of the Kudzu Ramblers, and enjoy dinner and fellowship. Friends, neighbors and community members are welcomed. Nothing says Christmas more than bluegrass, right?
Tickets are $10 per person, with a “family cap” at $40. Children ages 10 and under are free. Please register online, and pay at the event.

Hanging of the Greens: What does it mean?

Light coming in Woodhaven windows
So, is it “Hanging of the Greens” or “Hanging of the Green”? There may be debate over singular or plural, but there’s no doubt about the beauty and symbolism of this Advent worship service. Simply put, it’s to put the lyric from “Joy to the World” into action: “Let every heart prepare Him room.”

In the hanging of garlands, wreaths and Chrismon ornaments, we share with Christians throughout the ages the memory and anticipation of Christ’s coming. This year, we’re moving the service to the morning worship time at 10:30 am on Sunday, Dec. 2. Please come, invite friends and neighbors, and fill your heart with the hope, peace, joy and love.

Child care is available for little ones, and children and youth can join in the delight of decorating the sanctuary and Christmas tree.
