Music

Music is a wonderful part of our ministry here at Woodhaven. “Eclectic” might be the best word to describe our music, from hymn tunes that take you back to newer songs of praise. We have opportunities for beginning to advanced musicians to share their gifts, and we also welcome those who simply like to “make a joyful noise’!

The Woodhaven Worship Choir

Under the direction of Dr. Stephanie de Jong, Minister of Music & Worship, the Worship Choir leads our congregation in worship each Sunday. Due to the pandemic, we are meeting to rehearse on Wednesday nights from 7:15-7:45pm in the sanctuary…not the choir room. Our choir is open to all; no auditions are required to join this volunteer group. Sing with us year-round, or join us in preparation for special occasions, including annual Christmas cantatas or Easter music. Offer your gifts of praise by singing with us! Childcare is available from 6:45 – 7:45 p.m. during rehearsals on Wednesdays. Interested? Contact Stephanie de Jong: stephanie@woodhaven.org.

Children’s Music

In our Sunday and Wednesday activities, preschool and elementary children learn songs, hymns, and other music for worship and fun. Kids also learn about stories and people from the Bible, how to use the hymnal, and how to be worship leaders. On Wednesdays, children meet for music time from 6:00 – 6:30 p.m. in the Choir Room (downstairs from the Sanctuary). Ask Stephanie de Jong for details.

Handbells! The Woodhaven C3 Ringers

The handbell choir, called the Woodhaven C3 Ringers, meets on Sunday afternoons, typically September – May, from 4:30-5:30 p.m. in the Handbell Room of the Music Suite (downstairs from the Sanctuary). The handbell group plays on occasion in worship, during the Christmas Advent season, and for special services or concerts. This fun group adds a unique and exciting dimension to our music ministry and is led by Jim Bob Costilow. Not great at reading music? Give Jim Bob’s special color-coded method a try!

Ladies’ Ensemble, the Grace Notes

Grace Notes, is a ladies’ vocal ensemble. This group typically meets once a month on Sunday evenings; please check the church calendar for exact dates. Our music ranges from contemporary to gospel pieces with or without accompaniment. We welcome ladies of all musical abilities. As our name implies, we offer a lot of grace to one another! See Terri Stratton for details.

Other Music Opportunities

Don’t hide your light under a bushel. If you play an instrument or have other musical talents you would like to share in worship, please contact Stephanie de Jong, our minister of music, to see how we can let your musical gifts shine!
