Woodhaven Baptist Church Preschool COVID Plan for Reopening

                                                            August 3, 2021

Introduction

This is our current plan to provide a safe and developmentally appropriate preschool education for the 2021-2022 school year.  Recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics, North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services Guidance for Child Care Settings and Centers for Disease Control Guidance for Child Care Programs were considered as a guideline for the plan.

This plan is subject to change based on updated recommendations by these organizations as they relate to the spread and transmission rate of the coronavirus variants in our state and local communities.  Weekly experiences and observations of our teaching staff as they educate our children will also be considered in modifying our plan to maintain a healthy and safe learning environment for all.

Due to the smaller size of many of our preschool classrooms, physical distancing among children will be limited. Therefore, we will be focusing more on “classroom cohorts”.  Cohorting means students in a class will stay together for the entire day with minimum contact with other students inside the building.  In addition, we will be emphasizing hand hygiene, cleaning and sanitizing of our classrooms and common areas (bathrooms, high touch areas, multipurpose room, etc.) as needed throughout the day and the wearing of face coverings as described in our policy below.  Our new procedure for the arrival and dismissal of students each day will help move children quickly to their classroom in the morning and upon departure home at dismissal.  Please note that parent/guardians and visitors will not be allowed to enter the school hallways at arrival or dismissal to avoid overcrowding.  Parents/guardians and visitors must have permission from the preschool director to enter the building at any time.

Procedures for Arrival/Dismissal               School Hours – 9:15am to 1:15pm

The two and three year olds will be dropped off in the morning and picked up in the afternoon at their outside classroom door.  These are the exterior glass doors that are located along the sidewalk.  They are labeled by the teacher’s name.

The four and five year olds will use the exterior building doors by the mulch and sandlot playgrounds for arrival and dismissal.  These are also labeled by teachers’ names.

Staff will be outside to ensure that you get to the correct entrance door.

You must park and escort your child to and from their designated entrance door.  Please remember this is a busy parking lot so make sure you secure your child.
